Wishing all my readers a Happy New Year! This is the 50th post on this blog and I will reserve the 51st post for New Year’s day.
Thanks for reading.
Stay safe and healthy over the holidays and I’ll see you all again next year.
I already have some plans on what to write about, so stay tuned!
As always, feedback is welcomed.
I’m sure most of you know by now that DiGi is having a discount on its Smartplan 68 with 2 years contract. If you have been waiting for a good time to get a smartphone from DiGi, this could be the time.
There are lots of phones available for selection but I’m singling these 2 out as the best value for money:
DiGi Smart Plan 68 + Samsung Galaxy W: RM68 per month – RM15 (promotional rebate for 2 years) – RM5 (auto-billing rebate) = RM48 per month + RM399 for the phone
DiGi Smart Plan 68 + Samsung Galaxy SII: RM68 per month – RM15 (promotional rebate for 2 years) – RM5 (auto-billing rebate) = RM48 per month + RM1199 for the phone
I especially like the Galaxy W price. At RM399, its a good buy. I would get this for my gf or sis if they didn’t have a Galaxy Ace already. This is much more worth it compared to a Galaxy Ace.
All around Penang and indeed in other parts of the country, Samsung Malaysia seems to be shipping their tablets out faster than they can get them in. Hunting for a Galaxy Tab 8.9 or 10.1 proved to be a challenging task as most major retailers do not have stock for the WiFi only version. SenQ and Harvey Norman have the Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi only but it comes with a “YES” 4G huddle which raises the cost from RM1299 to RM1699. This is equivalent to the Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G+WiFi version. Furthermore, I do believe that quite a few buyers like myself would already have a data plan for the smart phone and would not appreciate having to maintain a separate data account specifically for the tablet. Indeed, I could just use whatever WiFi is available or enable WiFi Hotspot on my smartphone.
This led to the hunt for the Galaxy Tab 8.9/10.1 WiFi only tablet. Gadgetzone in Queensbay Mall does carry the said tablets. However, they had already run out of stock before I managed to get one from them. Not to be deterred by that, I headed to Prangin Mall/1st Avenue to see if any of the shops had it there. First stop was the shop in 1st Avenue which is a Samsung Elite Partner. This entitled them to sell their Samsung products with 2 years warranty. However, they do not have stock of the WiFi only version. Best in 1st Avenue did not have stock either.
In Prangin Mall, the situation was about the same. Until the last shop I visited before leaving. There stood 2 units of Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9. One with 3G, one with WiFi only. After confirming the price is the same, I left the shop and pondered over it. To buy or not to buy, that was the question.
In the end… Well, I bought it of course. But not for myself. Its a 30th Wedding Anniversary gift for my parents. Now, they are the proud owners of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi only.
… Well, now the hunt for a casing/screen protector begins.
RM1299 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi only
RM1699 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 3G+WiFi
RM1699 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WiFi only + YES 4G huddle
RM1499 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi only
RM1899 – Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 3G+WiFi
When money meant for producing cheaper local beef goes into condos, lands and Mercedes for investment, you know something is not right.
Take this into account:
A few years ago, we could withdraw money from OUR OWN EPF accounts to purchase PCs. The withdrawal amount was only up to RM3k per person. But because some people misused the money, the government scrapped the scheme. Now, we have one company withdrawing up to RM250m from OUR TAX MONEY for producing local beef. But instead, they MISUSED the money for “investment” purposes.
If the government can scrap a scheme which actually benefit some people because the tiny amount of their OWN money was MISUSED, they SHOULD scrap the company and reclaim all the money loaned to the company because they MISUSED the tax payers money.
What do you think?
Just popping back in to say Merry Christmas. I know I’ve been gone from blogging for a long while, but I was caught up with work, life and experimenting with different ROMs on my Galaxy S2. Right now, I’m on my 6th custom ROM and I think its among the best so far. What is it: CM7 of course!
I’ll probably flash in another ROM before 1st Jan 2012 though. LOL.
Do contact me if you have issues or just want to understand more about flashing a custom ROM.
1. Stock TouchWiz
2. Litening ROM
3. Cognition ROM
4. SensatioN ROM
5. Rarity ROM
6. Cyanogen Mod 7.1
After this, I’m gonna try an update to CM7 and see if it’s better. Then I would probably wait for an ICS release (unless I find a ROM that looks tempting…)
