The new year has come and Chinese New Year is just around the corner. New clothes are a must for most Chinese communities but why stop there? With the Moto G launching, there’s finally an affordable but still good spec-ed Android phone from a reputable manufacturer. How much is it? Only RM698 for the 8GB or RM798 for the 16GB. You may be asking, at that kind of price, how good is this phone?
By no means is this a top end phone. But still, this does not mean that it is a low end one. Here are the specs: 4.5″ 720×1280 screen, 1GB RAM, 5MP camera, Snapdragon 400 1.2GHz Quad core with Adreno 305 and a 2070 mAh battery. In comparison, the Nexus 4 is sporting a 4.7″ 768×1280 screen, 2GB RAM, 8MP camera, Snapdragon S4Pro 1.5GHz Quad core with Adreno 320 and a 2100 mAh battery. As can be seen, they have similar screen sizes, battery capacities and both sport a quad core processor with Adreno graphics core. However, that’s where the similarities end. By reducing the price, the RAM had to be downgraded to 1GB and the camera too was reduced from 8MP to 5MP. However, since the Nexus 4 camera wasn’t really that great, it is possible that there won’t be too much difference between them. In fact, some might prefer how the photos from the Moto G turn out. Photo comparisons can be seen here.
For those looking for a cheap yet reliable phone, this would be the phone I’d recommend at this moment in time. The official release in Malaysia is just days away, supposedly 24th January 2014. Interested parties can preorder at Lazada.com and get a free back flip cover casing worth RM128. As like Nexus phones, the phone does not support memory cards, it would be better to spend the extra RM100 and go for the 16GB model instead.
