A rumor has been circulating that LG is stopping their production of the Nexus 4, one of their most popular phones. This rumor came at a time when many people are still waiting for the Nexus 4 to be available. Furthermore, the article goes on to cite a quote by an LG rep that “ we launched the LG Nexus 4 smartphone. This is the first of many devices to come from our growing partnership with this very selective company.” If indeed this is true and Google is looking at producing more Nexus devices with LG, I would seriously ask them to consider it carefully.
Thus far, the LG Nexus 4 launch has been a nightmare. Twice it was available for ordering in Google Play stores and twice it was sold out. Rumor has it that LG only gave a small amount of phones to Google. And that’s for the luckier parts of the world where Google’s Play Store does sell devices. In other countries such as Malaysia, we are just starting to get LG Nexus 4’s availability officially.
It certainly doesn’t make sense for them to suddenly halt production of this device but then again, Google may have given up on them and decided to launch another Nexus device with a different manufacturer (Motorola or Sony perhaps?). Part of me hopes that this is the case while another part of me hopes that LG will continue producing the Nexus 4. The only thing I don’t hope for is that Google will keep partnering LG to produce future Nexus devices.
Out of all Nexus devices thus far, the Nexus 4 is probably one of the most sought after and yet the hardest to get. Perhaps we should wait for some word from Google before deciding whether to go for Nexus 4 or other devices.
