After slightly more than 3 weeks of torturous waiting, my Galaxy S2 has been revived from its non-phone state. Rejoice!
Total damage: RM295
Breakdown of charges – RM250 for 3G radio revival + RM45 for USB port replacement
Would have preferred it to cost less but I can’t complain. It seems to be working fine now and there’s a 3 month warranty period for the replacements in case anything goes wrong.
Currently still on stock Samsung firmware, Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Phone is currently charging and I will probably remain on stock for a couple of days to see how stable is the network signal and USB transfer/charging before I switch it over to custom ROM again.
Once I’m on custom ROM (probably CM9 for now), I plan to do another round of modem testing on a few new modems. Thereafter, I’ll probably give CM10 a try. Been following the thread at XDA-Developers and reading some good things over the past few days. Really anxious to give it a try but hardware stability has to come first.
Any specific modem or ROMs that you would like to see me test out? Let me know in the comments section and I’ll do my best to get to it!
Update: Despite what I had said yesterday, it is barely a day after I had gotten my S2 back and now it is already running JellyBean! CM10 20121014 Nightly to be precise. LOL. The download speeds I’m getting from the current XXLPQ modem is less than satisfactory so I’ll probably hunt around for some new modems to try out. I recall getting some suggestions previously. Now to hunt down those files.
