Tired of Android phones and tablets without optical zoom and other proper camera functions? Tired of cameras that is a hassle to upload photos from? Here comes a new device from Nikon!
The Nikon S800c is a camera first and foremost. However, it adds an Android platform to the camera and now, you have the full Android tablet capability on your camera! Granted, its camera specs isn’t the most high end and wouldn’t leave a camera enthusiast drooling, it is still a much better upgrade (in terms of camera specs) than any Android camera phone currently available.
The Android OS in the camera allows it to easily share photos on Facebook, Twitter or other media. It is only Gingerbread based. But it will be fine for the purpose of sending photos and the occasional email and casual gaming. One down side is that you will need to make sure that you have WiFi as the Android phone does not support 3G networks.
I think that this could be the start of a new trend where compact digital cameras are integrated with Android OS to give users more functionality. If I were in the market for a digital camera now (DSLR may follow the trend later on), this would be one camera I’d be looking at. However, to my untrained photography eye, my Samsung Galaxy SII camera is enough. Photography buffs may prefer this camera however.
If you had to get a camera, will you be planning on getting this or is the typical camera in a smart phone all you need for a casual shoot?
