We all know that low end phones like Galaxy Ace pretty much has no plans to be upgraded to ICS officially from Samsung. However, all is not lost as a certain team of developers are hard at work unofficially porting CM9 over to the Galaxy Ace. From forum users over at XDA, it would seem that the unofficial CM9 port is working quite well. As always there is still some bugs that needs to be worked out so I don’t suggest you to jump right into updating your Galaxy Ace to this unofficial CM9 port before reading the known issues.
One of the biggest issues for me would probably be the not fully working camera. However, Maclaw and team have been working on a fix and it is expected that the next release, beta9, would fix this issue. I would be tempted to try to get my sister’s phone updated to CM9 by that time. For now, I will keep on reading the feedbacks and getting a good idea on what issues I might expect to come across.
Note: Maclaw and team are also supporting CM9 porting work for Galaxy Gio S5660, Galaxy Fit S5670 and Galaxy Mini S5570. So if you’re interested, head on over to the threads and see what’s the latest status on these projects. For myself, I’ll only be looking at Galaxy Ace’s progress as I do not have access to any of the other devices.
