DiGi is announcing a Fandroid Day on 3rd March 2012. This event probably will be a KL-exclusive one but I’m hoping that DiGi will not forget its many other customers in other states, especially Penang!
The announcement that DiGi, Google and Samsung experts will be there hints that this event is related to Samsung Android devices. As it is happening in March, hopefully it will correspond with Samsung Android launches which will be announced at MWC in February. Another possibility is that this event brings the eagerly awaited ICS update to Samsung lineups as it has been previously rumored that Samsung will be updating its popular Galaxy SII and Galaxy Note smartphones with the ICS update in March.
If you own a Galaxy SII I9100 and can’t wait for Samsung to release the update, you can try updating to CM9 ROM which will give you a plain vanilla ICS as Google intended it to be. Personally, I find it quite elegant looking and I’m looking forward to having the video playback/recording fixed and the MTP storage issues as well. Once these 2 issues are fixed, I will be on CM9 full time. Currently, I had to downgrade back to CM7. Missing the ICS experience badly!
Whatever it is, DiGi also mentions that a bigger surprise will be announced some time in the near future, presumably closer to the event date. Although it has been reported that Samsung will not be announcing Galaxy SIII at MWC, it is anticipated that Galaxy SII+ may make its debut there. Perhaps this will be the bigger surprise that DiGi will announce alongside Samsung and Google. Wouldn’t it be a great statement if DiGi were to launch the Galaxy SII+ in Malaysia first?
