Verdict: 2 points lost
Enrique, Adam, Henderson and Downing all started the match while Kuyt and Meireles started from the bench. While Adam did pretty well (from the few minutes that I manage to watch the game) and Enrique looked decent, I hadn’t expected Kuyt and Meireles to make way for them from the start. I was pretty sure that Kuyt would retain his starting berth while Meireles would be played alongside Adam in midfield. I guess that Dalglish wanted to go on the offensive with both Suarez and Carroll starting. Too bad it didn’t work out.
Next week: Arsenal v Liverpool
Liverpool have a very tough first away match. The loss of Cesc Fabregas (and likely loss of Nasri) on paper would seem to reduce Arsenal’s quality. Gervinho being sent off in their match against Newcastle was also a blessing for Liverpool. Unless Arsenal spends in the next couple of days and bring in 1-2 quality players, I think that Liverpool has a chance to win this one. Arsenal has lost a left back and a (or two) central midfielders but they must not be taken lightly. To do so would spell our own doom. However, with Dalglish showing that he can win against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United last season, I would actually count on him to capitalize on Arsenal’s luck and take an away win.
Predicted score: 1-2
