Aji Noren is a Japanese restaurant that is located at Tanjung Prima. In case you didn’t know, Tanjung Prima is the name of the row of shoplots opposite Island Plaza. Aji Noren is located at the back of the row, facing away from the main road. It is a favorite restaurant of Sin Tian.
We headed there on Saturday evening for dinner. The place was quite packed and we had to wait for a table to be open. Such is the popularity of this restaurant.
After waiting for a couple of minutes, we were shown to a table. After going through the menu for a while, we both decided on what we wanted. Sin Tian ordered (if memory serves, Oyakodon) a bowl of rice topped with chicken and egg while I ordered the Katsu Kare rice which is curry with fried chicken. As an add-on, we ordered a bowl of Mabo Tofu as Sin Tian liked this dish.
The curry rice was good. It is not too spicy and has a good aroma. The rice was a little sticky but overall this dish was still nice. Curry also proved to be a limited dish as we overheard the waitress telling another patron a while later that they had run out of curry. So be sure not to get there too late if you want to sample the curry. The Oyakodon was good as well. The chicken went well with the egg and rice as well. Each rice came with a small bowl of Miso Soup. The Mabo Tofu was also nice albeit a little spicy.
For the duration that we were at Aji Noren, the crowd never stopped coming in. After we finished our dinner and left the restaurant, we noticed that there was more people waiting for a table outside of the window. This restaurant enjoys a strong crowd on the weekends and bookings are recommended although not required. It is a good place to have dinner to enjoy the food and the environment.
