March has been a crazy month for me and my family. The main low light of this month:
The day-time break-in at my house
Despite the low light, there has been some positive upside as well. Though I would prefer to keep the highlights private for the time being.
The break-in incident at my house happened on a Friday afternoon and in broad daylight. I am thankful that no one was hurt and nothing major was stolen. Only cash and an old phone. It could have been much worse as my personal Dell laptop was in plain sight but ignored and so were my sister’s Asus laptop and phone. Our personal documents like insurance, passports and other such things were not taken away as well.
The perpetrator of this crime was formally dressed in shirt and slacks. He was leaving the house as my dad was coming back. Unfortunately, my dad was not able to apprehend him but in his panic to leave, he lost his calm composure and our briefcase of documents fell from his motorcycle. My mom collected back our briefcase but didn’t memorize the number plate of the criminal.
He came in broad daylight, bypassed one lock and broke through another lock to enter the house. From there, he began a room by room search for cash and other small items. He found most of my spare cash and my dad’s new notes (which he kept for angpow giving). My dad’s old phone was left on the table and was taken too. I suppose that coming alone on a motorcycle prevented him from taking the more bulky things such as laptops.
A police report was made but I hold little hopes of ever recovering the stolen cash or phone. We have added more locks to our house in an effort to increase security but only time will tell if it is enough.
