I fully intended to post this earlier but I just couldn’t find the time to do it. Work being a major factor in this. I hope that the readers can bear with me on this. Anyhow, here is my run down for this week.
Liverpool is on the road against West Ham this week in what should be a close victory for Liverpool. I anticipate that Liverpool will start Suarez in this match after he was rested in the mid week win against Sparta Prague. Meireles will again prove to be the inspiration for attack though. I think that Dalglish would like to return to the 3-4-2-1 formation which has served him quite well. However, the injury on Agger may force him to switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation which sees Kelly, Johnson, Carragher and Skrtel in defense, Meireles, Gerrard, Lucas would man the midfield while Kuyt and Cole/Maxi supports Suarez.
This isn’t a bad formation as Lucas would add some defensive capabilities to the back four and give Kelly/Johnson room to roam up the field. Gerrard and Meireles will boss the middle while looking for opportunities to make a run at the opposition goal. Kuyt and Cole/Maxi will have to try to create some width and get crosses in for Suarez/Gerrard/Meireles.
This should be enough to see Liverpool winning this game 1-2. Without Agger in defense, a back four which sees the fullbacks preferring to attack and only 1 defensive midfielder is less defensively capable than the 3-4-2-1 formation. Hence, I do expect Liverpool to concede a goal. However, the threat of Suarez, Gerrard, Meireles, Kuyt and Cole/Maxi should be enough to score a couple of goals to seal the win. If Liverpool opts to play more defensively with Poulsen replacing either Gerrard or Meireles, then it may be enough to secure them a clean sheet with a 0-1 win.
Do bear in mind that Man U plays twice this week and both are on the road travels, to Wigan and Chelsea. Man U @ Wigan should be a pretty easy affair for them but Man U may have their Tuesday clash with Chelsea in mind and opt to rest more important players. Still, it is quite hard to see Man U losing against Wigan despite resting some key players. I expect Man U to win 0-2 in this match.
Against Chelsea, they will be up against more formidable opponents. Although Chelsea hasn’t been performing up to their own standards this season and have lost some grounds to the current leader, they will not be in the mood to give Man U an easy win. I think this will be a pretty physical matchup which may see more than the average number of cards being shown. Despite Chelsea having acquired Luiz and Torres over the January transfer window, they have not gotten back to being the powerhouse they once were. This leads me to give slight edge to Man U in this encounter. I think that Man U can win this game 2-3.
There are 3 teams who will not be participating in the Premier League this weekend and they are: Birmingham, Arsenal and Tottenham. Yahoo Fantasy Football players should try to stay away from those matches unless you want to hold on to the players at significant discount (RvP @ 9 and such). For me, I have already dropped all players who are not playing and I hope that I am making the right decision. Only time will tell I suppose.
Good luck to all over the weekend.
